Welcome to the MCR committee! There are opportunities going on around college during this week, we hope to see you around!
This week’s Fitztivities
7.pm Monday – Fitz Opera’s 2022 show [Auditorium]. Mozart’s Così fan tutte, preparatory to casting for this year’s end-of-April show, Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love. Do come along, particularly if you are interested in playing any role (in any capacity: principal or chorus singer, orchestral player, production, costume, hair/make-up, stage management, technical: no experience is required for many of these roles) and make yourself known to Catherine Groom, Director of Music.
7.30 pm Monday The Value of Creativity [Upper Hall]. Join us for a facilitated discussion around creativity and how it might feature in our work. Are there are frameworks or patterns in our thinking that are unhelpful and obstructive? Could we imagine ways that we might break free of them? There could be something to learn from the creative arts which might be exemplifying creativity more generously than most other practices and activities. And does the same logic apply more broadly in our own lives? Do we sometimes need to identify creative escape routes to a new outlook? No booking required.
Other Opportunities
The 2023 Fitzwilliam Society Grants are now open for applications!
What are the Fitzwilliam Society Grants?
The Fitzwilliam Society offers a grant fund of £3,000 to support projects that enhance the student-experience at the College. They are particularly interested in supporting student projects that would not otherwise qualify for funding from the usual sources. The Society is particularly keen to encourage applications from individuals and informal groups as well as from established societies, clubs or associations.
What kind of things do they support?
Successful applications have included: JCR improvements – an art competition; funding for a BBQ in celebration of Fitz’s LGBT+ communities; new freezer for the MCR; Table Tennis Table for the MCR; Planting and adopting native and fruit trees across college properties; Drug tests for students – to detect spiking; Sustainable, Fitz-branded Cups to replace disposable plastic ones. Creativity in your applications is encouraged!

Education Resources
Get to know the “Education Resources” tab on the Fitz MCR webpage!
This is a one-stop page which consolidates quick-access links to various academic databases and software that might be useful across different types of courses – not just those on which Cambridge already has institutional licenses for, but also others where one can request directly for a free educational/academic license!
Have any ideas or suggestions on what databases or software to include here? Simply drop an email to mcr.academic@fitz.cam.ac.uk – this page is non-exhaustive and will have rolling updates!
Fitz MCR Charity
This year the MCR are supporting a local charity – Jimmy’s Cambridge – who support the homeless community in Cambridge. Please consider making a donation through our Just Giving page. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/MCR-Treasurer
